JBS Beef Brazil donated a ton of 1953 beef ribs for the charitable event which attracted over a thousand people

in Santo Antônio do Pinhal, in the interior of São Paulo


The Ribs for Good charitable event, organized by JBS on December 2, helped raised R$ 270 thousand, which will be used to treat cancer patients at the Hospital of Love in Barretos (SP). This is twice the amount raised last year.  The charity barbecue was attended by around a thousand people who enjoyed a ton of beef ribs from the premium 1953 brand, donated by JBS, as well as side dishes and products from a range of company brands, including Swift, Seara and Bordon. The event took place during the Team Penning for Good at Espirito Santo do Pinhal, in the interior of São Paulo.


Also at the barbecue were specialists from the Top Grade Butcher program (through which JBS provides preferential support for supermarket butchers who choose to sell JBS products) and the Sourcing teams from Mato Grosso, Goiás, Pará, Rondônia, Acre, Minas Gerais and São Paulo, who volunteered to assist the people attending the event. “The event was a great opportunity to work alongside some of our biggest partners in the area and other stakeholders to support an important cause that will benefit a globally recognized oncology center”, said Eduardo Pedroso, executive director of Sourcing at JBS.


According to figures from the Barretos Hospital of Love, the agribusiness production chain accounts for 70% of the donations its receives. “We have a number of events like this one, but I had never seen a Rib as big as this before. I always say that the Hospital of Love’s greatest assets is its volunteers and donors, because without them we would have to significantly reduce the level of service we offer”, said Rubikinho Carvaho, a volunteer director at the Hospital of Love.


Since the beginning of the year, JBS has been engaging its suppliers to contribute R$ 1 to the hospital per head of cattle sold to the Company through the “Agriculture Against Cancer” campaign. “Symbolically, Ribs for Good marked the end of our engagement with the campaign this year and our preparation to further commit to the cause in 2019”, added Eduardo Pedroso.
