More than 900 animals were assessed during the event
SAo Paulo, July 26, 2019 – The Brazilian Association of Nelore Breeders (ACNB) and the Mato Grosso Nelore Breeders’ Association (ACNMT) have announced the winners of the 9th stage of the Nelore Quality Circuit, which was held at the Araputanga (MT) Friboi plant on July 16 and 17.
“Altogether, 938 animals, including 568 males and 370 females, from eight livestock breeders were assessed”, said Gustavo Callejon, the ACNB’s technical advisor responsible for the assessments.
“65.3% of the males had up to four permanent incisors, or around 2.5 years of age. In terms of weight, 99.8% of the animals weighed over 18 arrobas and 45% presented median and uniform fat finishing. 75.2% of the females had up to two permanent incisor teeth (around 2 years of age) and almost all of them (98.6%) weighed over 14 arrobas. Importantly, we noted that 86.8% of the female carcasses had median and uniform fat finishing”, said the veterinarian.
The Best Male Carcass Lot at this stage (Gold Medal) was presented by Agropecuária Grendene, with 97% of animals showing no permanent incisor teeth (less than 2 years of age) and average weight of 24 arrobas. Half of the lot had median and uniform fat finishing.
The animals from the farm, which also won the Bronze Medal for Best Female Carcass Lot, are the offspring of Nelore PO breeding cattle selected using tools provided by the ABCZ Genetic Improvement Program (PMGZ) and the ACNB’s Nelore Brazil Program, proving the benefits of using genetic selection to produce high quality meat.
Among the males, the Silver Medal went to Carlos Sérgio Arantes and the Bronze Medal went to Edson Ribeiro de Mendonça Neto. Among the best female lots, João Sanches Junqueira took Gold Medal and Sabrina Sanches was awarded the Silver.
“In addition to volume, the Nelore produce high quality meat. As part of our initiatives and partnerships, we are working hard to spread this quality throughout the Brazilian herd”, said Nabih Amin El Aouar, the ACNB’s president.
“The results of the assessment show the breed and farmers in Mato Grosso are achieving high levels of productivity”, said Breno Molina, ACNMT president.
The Gold Medal winners received 500 kilos of Matsuda Sementes e Nutrição Animal mineral supplements which will be delivered to their farms by the company’s technical experts.
Nelore Quality Circuit
The Nelore Quality Circuit, which is organized by the Brazilian Association of Nelore Breeders (ACNB), supports and promotes pure-bred meat and genetics to help increase productivity for Brazilian cattle farmers. The initiative gauges producers’ results based on their local environment and production system.
This year, Friboi and Matsuda are sponsoring the event that began back in 1999. Friboi’s involvement has doubled the size of the event, which will have 26 stages across 10 states. By the end of 2019, the Circuit will assess a record 20 thousand carcasses.
The Nelore Quality Circuit is organizing 17 stages between August and November: in Goiás (Mozarlândia e Goiânia), Mato Grosso (Barra dos Garças), Espírito Santo (Colatina), São Paulo (Lins and Andradina), Pará (Marabá), Minas Gerais (Ituiutaba, Iturama and Nanuque), Rondônia (Vilhena and Pimenta Bueno), Mato Grosso do Sul (Nova Andradina, Naviraí, Ponta Porã and Campo Grande) and Bahia (Itapetinga).
