Entry into new markets for fresh beef, like the USA, will consolidate the company’s market leadership.
São Paulo, January 5, 2017 – In December, the Argentinean Ministries of Production and Foreign Affairs recognized JBS as the country’s largest meatpacking industry exporter. In 2016, the company registered a 7% increase in exports compared with 2015.
JBS arrived in Argentina in 2005 and now leads the market with a meatpacking plant in Rosario, another in Santa Fé and a distribution center in Buenos Aires. “In the region we have invested the equivalent of $40 million to increase our production capacity in the country. For example, in terms of processed foods, we have increased our production capacity for sausages, nuggets and hamburgers”, said Gustavo Kahl, JBS Regional Coordinator for the Southern Cone and CEO of JBS Argentina.
The executive also explained that efforts to open up new markets like the USA – expected in the first quarter of this year – rebuild cattle herds, Argentinian meat’s return to prominence on foreign markets and improvements in productivity and operational efficiency will help consolidate the company’s leadership in Argentina.
JBS Argentina is capable of processing 500,000 head of cattle annually at its Rosario plant and ships 30% of its fresh beef outputs to China, Chile, Europe and Israel – which represent 90% of the company’s exports – in addition to Brazil and Europe under its Hilton Quota.
JBS, a company with over 60 years’ experience, is a food company that manages production platforms and commercial offices in over 20 countries. The company has over 230 thousand staff worldwide, exports to more than 150 countries and serves over 300 thousand active clients globally. JBS has a diverse product portfolio that includes dozens of brands that are known throughout the world. The company is also active in other sectors related to its core business, such as leather, biodiesel, collagen, soaps, glycerin and casings and owns waste management, metal packaging and shipping businesses that support its global operations.
