The event was held on June 5 and 6
Sao Paulo, June 20, 2019 – The Brazilian Association of Nelore Breeders (ACNB) and its Association of Nelore Breeders in Tocantins (ACNT), alongside Friboi and Matsuda Sementes e Nutrição Animal, have announced the winners of the 5th stage of the Nelore Quality Circuit, which was held at the local Friboi plant on June 5 and 6.
The 5th stage of the 2019 Nelore Quality Circuit assessed 418 animals from nine breeders. The results confirmed early termination of Nelore carcasses, which is a decisive factor for meat quality and producer profitability. “74.3% of males had up to four permanent incisor teeth and 87.8% of the animals weighed more than 18 arrobas when slaughtered”, said Nabih Amin El Aouar, president of the ACNB.
José Luiz Sanches Boteon, ACNT president, highlighted the females’ weight and fat finishing: 82.5% of the animals weighted over 14 arrobas and 80% presented median and uniform fat finishing. The Araguaina stage of the Circuit has highlighted our contribution to increasing Nelore meat quality and productivity across the region”, he said.
Livestock farmer Ricardo José de Andrade and his father Epaminondas de Andrade received the gold medal for best male carcass lot. Their lot was slaughtered at an average of 20 arrobas and around 90% of the animals had up to 2 permanent incisor teeth.
“We are very happy with the results because they show Fazenda Vale do Boi is moving in the right direction, producing standardized animals with excellent compliance with slaughterhouse specifications. Our animals are also pasture-bred and receive strategic supplements during the fattening phase” said Andrade.
In addition to providing his Nelore cattle with forage and supplements, the farmer said one of the factors that helped him win the Nelore Quality Circuit was the intensive genetic improvement project that has been running at his farm in Carmolândia (TO), using PMGZ, from ABCZ.
The gold medal for best male carcass lot went to Epaminondas de Andrade. José Coimbra Filho took silver and Alacides Negreiros Rodrigues won bronze. The prize for best female carcass lot went to Luciana Vieira Costa Saddi. The gold medal winners received 500 kilos of Matsuda mineral supplements which will be delivered to their farms by the company’s technical experts.
